Kaori Miyazono
宮園 かをり Miyazono Kaori
Kaori Miyazono (宮園 かをり Miyazono Kaori) is the main female protagonist of Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso. She was the only daughter of Ryouko Miyazono and Yoshiyuki Miyazono who was a free-spirited, gifted violinist whose playing style reflected on her wonderful personality.
She attended Sumiya Junior High School as a third year-student where she was in the same class as Tsubaki Sawabe. She first met Kousei Arima when she asked Tsubaki to set her up with Ryota Watari. As their friendship grew, she eventually began helping Kousei return to the piano world after his mother's death.
Kousie Arima
有馬 公生 Arima Kōsei
Kousei Arima (有馬 公生 Arima Kōsei) is the main protagonist of the Your Lie in April series. He is the son of Takahiko Arima and Saki Arima and a student attending Sumiya Junior High School who was the youngest winner of the Maihou Piano Competition. As a child, Kousei was a calm and obedient boy. When he is not hanging out with Ryota Watari, Tsubaki Sawabe and Kaori Miyazono, he spends most of his day alone in his thoughts. This dense characteristic makes him oblivious to what is going on around him. Ever since Kousei was a young boy, he had perfect pitch where he was able to accurately replicate a piece that he had only heard once.
Tsubake Sawabe
澤部 椿 Sawabe Tsubaki)
Tsubaki Sawabe (澤部 椿 Sawabe Tsubaki) is one of the main characters of the Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso series. She is a third-year at Sumiya Junior High School. Tsubaki is a very kind, caring, outgoing girl who is always willing to help out her friends in their troubles. She is also adventurous, sometimes to the point of doing dangerous things. Despite her calm and kind nature, Tsubaki is easily angered. In her childhood, when Kousei Arima was learning the piano and was never able to go out to play with her, she would often make things for him and reassured him when his mother got rid of his cat he had found.
Ryota Watari
渡 亮太 Watari Ryōta
Ryōta Watari (渡 亮太 Watari Ryōta) is one of the main characters of the Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso series. He is a student attending Sumiya Junior High School who is the captain of the football team. Watari was a close friend of Kousei Arima and Tsubaki Sawabe who regularly spent time together where they were great friends. He cared for his friends, as well as Kousei’s mother, whom he bought scented erasers for, during her hospitalization. Watari is a kind, outgoing and friendly boy. He's a bit of a play-boy, as he seems to prefer girls who are "cute", demonstrated as he comments that when he sees Kaori Miyazono for the first time he stated that Tsubaki Sawabe did a good job on finding a cute looking girl.
